Matthew is causing widespread flooding, damage and power outages across FL and response efforts are already underway. We are still learning the extent of the devastation brought to Haiti. The death toll is believed to be over 800. Water-borne diseases are a particular immediate concern and for the longer-term, rebuilding after the loss of many thousands of homes and extensive crop destruction.
Please give generously in support of the victims.
In addition to shelters, the Red Cross has a multi-state disaster response effort underway with shelter supplies, ready-to-eat meals, clean-up and comfort kits. The Red Cross is closely monitoring the storm and working in close collaboration with government officials and community partners to make sure people get the help they need.
The Hurricane Matthew fund will help provide emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine in addition to any longer-term recovery assistance that is needed. All donations to this fund will exclusively support locally driven relief and recovery efforts for this disaster.
Since the hurricane broke, Save the Children has deployed an Emergency Health Unit in Haiti, stockpiling non-food items including hygiene kits, baby items, household kits, mosquito nets and jerry cans.
